Aryna Sabalenka Surpasses 11,000 Ranking Points, Joins Serena & Iga on Exclusive List
The Mutua Madrid Open is always a pivotal tournament. This year, Aryna Sabalenka made history by surpassing 11,000 ranking points. With a dominant performance, Sabalenka clinched her third title of the year. This significantly boosted her position at the top of the WTA rankings.
Aryna Sabalenka’s Historic Ranking Points Achievement
Prior to Madrid, Sabalenka sat at 10,768 ranking points. After winning the Madrid Open, she added 350 points to her tally, bringing her to 11,118 points. This marks her first time surpassing the 11,000-point milestone. She joins an exclusive list of women who have achieved this feat in the past decade. Serena Williams and Iga Swiatek have previously reached this milestone. Serena had 13,161 points in 2015. Meanwhile, Iga hit a high of 11,695 in 2024.
Serena Williams Ranking vs. Iga Swiatek Points Drop
Serena Williams, one of the most decorated players in tennis history, held the top spot. In 2015, she had 20 weeks above 11,000 points. However, as Sabalenka moves up, Iga Swiatek’s ranking points saw a significant dip. Swiatek went from Madrid champion in 2024, with 1,000 points, to a semifinal finish in 2025, losing 610 points. As a result, Sabalenka now leads Swiatek by over 4,000 points. This is the largest gap at No. 1 since 2023.
ATP Rankings: Jack Draper and Lorenzo Musetti’s Breakthrough
In the ATP rankings, two players made major breakthroughs. Jack Draper, after reaching the Madrid final, moved up from No. 6 to No. 5. This marked his debut in the Top 5. Draper’s rise makes him just the second left-handed man in the Top 5 this century. He joins the ranks of Rafael Nadal. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Musetti achieved his own Top 10 debut by moving from No. 11 to No. 9. He reached the semifinals in Madrid, becoming the sixth Italian man to break into the elite group.
Other Notable Rankings Changes
Other notable shifts include Casper Ruud’s return to the Top 10 after a strong performance in Madrid. He climbed from No. 15 to No. 7. Rising stars like Brandon Nakashima and Moyuka Uchijiima also made headlines. Nakashima broke into the Top 30, while Uchijiima made her Top 50 debut.
